Jakob Sturm
is an artist and author. In addition to his actual artistic work, but building on it, he is the initiator of projects that deal with the redefinition and formatting of existing architecture and spaces in a real social and urban context, their possibilities and uses.

Study of philosophy and sociology in Munich and Frankfurt am Main;
1990 co-founder of KUNSTBÜRO-FRANKFURT; since then various projects in public space;
1993 Installation in an operating water pumping station of the city of Hanau (WERKMUSEUM, together with Bernd Winzinger, KUNSTBÜRO-FRANKFURT);
2000 Installation MESSEBETTEN: Accommodation on an empty office floor in Frankfurt (together with Bernd Winzinger, KUNSTBÜRO-FRANKFURT);
2001-02 guest study at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Offenbach;
2002 co-founder of RAUMPOOL, a network for the creation of space concepts for vacant real estate to support and organize artistic projects;
2002 habitable artistic installation GÄSTE in a rented apartment in Frankfurt;
2003 Installation LAST THINGS; Reconstruction and use of the ticket hall of the old Main Customs Office in Frankfurt;
2004 Events titled POLIT KÜCHE: cooking, eating and discussing with people from political conflict contexts;
2004 Participation in the artist symposium FRAMEMAKERS in Limerick, Ireland;
2005 Co-founder and since then together with Felix Ruhöfer Operator of BASIS: Development of a vacant property and creation of work opportunities and exhibition space as a dynamic platform for creatives of all disciplines;
since 2006 together with Heiner Blum conception and planning of the project UNIVERSAL, a cultural concept for the conurbation Rhein-Main that measures itself at the practice;
2006-2007 lecturer in the field of experimental spatial concepts at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Offenbach;
2008 Opening of the second location of BASIS at Gutleutstrasse 8-12 in Frankfurt
2009/2010 CONVERTIBLE HILLS (CONVERTIBLE CAMPING) Concept for the temporary activation of vacant office space for creative production or for work and living (together with the architects Michel Müller and Steffen Sendelbach);
10 / 2010-1 / 2011 Pilot project and concrete use of CONVERTIBLE HINGE on a Goßraum office space in the former Frankfurt "diamond exchange"
2/2011 Foundation of the vacancy agency RADAR. Arranging vacant rooms for creative use (on behalf of the city of Frankfurt am Main)
5-10 / 2011 XQM Architectural project in inner city public space. Clearing rooms at different unused downtown locations. Use of these spaces for social and cultural purposes (together with Heiner Blum);

4/2016 Long-term establishment of the BASIS project at the central location at Gutleutstraße 8-12 in Frankfurt. Purchase of the house for the work of BASIS by the city of Frankfurt.
9/2016 Appointment of the representative of the state of Hessen for the provision and development of spaces for creative people. Advising Hessian municipalities on developing production opportunities for the young cultural and creative industries.
9/2017 RESIDENTS. Establishment of subsidized residential studios in a building complex in Frankfurt Praunheim (formerly Praunheimer Werkstätten), which is currently used as housing for refugees. Accompanying the work of the artists with refugees.
3/2018 PART OF ... A CONCERT. Curation of the first public event, developed from the cooperation of refugees and artists in Frankfurt Praunheim (RESIDETS)
2/2020 Publication of the autobiographical artistic book project "Orte möglichen Wohnens" ("Places of Possible Living")
since 2021 Involvement in the initiative "Making Frankfurt" (www.making-frankfurt.de)
since 2021 Member of the jury of the GFB Future Award, an award for innovative, creative residential projects in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main conurbation by the Hessian Ministry of Economics.
9/2021 "Corona Belt 2". Choreography in public space on the occasion of a program for the "Post Crona Innenstadt" in Frankfurt.
